This includes lecture, recording, group circles, practice teaching and partner work.
Who Is The Instructor?
Taught by Karen Pierce, this YTT curriculum has been developed over the course of Karen’s nearly 40 years’ experience to offer you a solid foundation in the art and science of teaching yoga. A life-long student of yoga, Karen’s style is based on her extensive teaching experience and her studying with multiple lineages, teachers and styles of yoga. Karen takes what is most helpful and meaningful from a vast array of different sources and styles. She is a master of progressive teaching and every class has an intention or sequencing (karma) that is unique. Karen works with movement sequencing (asana and somatics), breath work (pranayama), mudras, energy work, and the wisdom of Ayurveda (Indian Medicine) so that the yoga can be adapted to all levels of ability. As a Yoga Therapist, Karen works one-on-one with individuals honoring ancient yoga techniques while combining modern wisdom to identify imbalances and empower the person to progress toward improved health and well-being. Karen is the author of YogaBear: Yoga for Youngsters (Northword Press, 2004) and co-contributor to Yoga in America (2009).
What previous trainies said about the training.
“I just want to start off by saying these past 10 months have been absolutely incredible. I have learned more about myself than ever before and finally feel “whole” as a person. This experience was not what I expected at all… It was way more! I wanted to do YTT to basically learn more advanced poses to increase my physical practice. We did some of those but the other things I learned about my own self, spirituality, and how to change the world were way more valuable.” – Drew D., Mental Health Counselor
“Training to become a yoga teacher with Karen Pierce has been an incredible journey. Karen is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. I am awe-struck by the phenomenal yoga teacher-training manual that she has assembled and shared, and her expert pedagogy of the subject and all its allied fields. Karen has shown us that yoga is not just physical exercise, breathing, and meditation; it is everything – Anatomy, Auras, Chakras, Meridians, Nadis, Energetic Bodies, Shamanism, Crystal Healing, Ayurveda, Bandhas, Mudras, Mantras, and lots of yogic philosophy and Sanskrit thrown in the mix. An angel must have been guiding me to Karen Pierce’s Yoga Teacher Training Program, because it has been a beautiful life-changing experience for me. I feel much happier, healthier and more optimistic for whatever the future brings.” - Karen B., Tutor
“I have been wanting to do another 200 Teacher Training for a while and when I saw your name pop up on my Facebook page—I knew God was sending me a message—it was my time to explore with you. I feel so blessed that I got to experience this with you as my teacher, since you were the one who got me hooked on Yoga @Sportsplex many years ago. I loved learning more about the chakras, mudras, mantras, all the different breathing techniques, meditations, Shamanism, Doshas…How Ayurveda is a life style—that works with your Doshas and what happens when they are out of balance—makes so much sense to me. Love the 7 Directions—that’s why your classes always feel so balanced. Teaching this way has opened up my teaching style—I feel like I have a full toolbox going into my classes. All the other types of classes you have exposed us to during Teacher Training: Chair Yoga, Ball/Wall Class, Joint Freeing class, Restorative Class—and encouraging us to take other styles—so I learned Yin Yoga, Ashtanga, Hot Yoga—through this experience. You really have showed me so many different ways to teach—I feel the Yoga mat is our canvas to explore different styles and techniques. Your guided meditations are like no other—you can’t teach that—it’s your GIFT. I can’t thank you enough for this amazing journey. There truly are no words to express my gratitude—there are so many more things to write about—I could go on and on—I have learned so much in this 200 Teacher Training—My love for Yoga has grown even deeper, which I didn’t think was possible—Thank you from the bottom of my heart—this has been the BEST GIFT of 2018!!” - Jan C., Personal Trainer
“When looking for Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) programs to offer at Yogaspace I was so amazed that our very own Karen Pierce had put together such an amazing program. In my first meeting with Karen we discussed her offering and it was like a dream come true for me. She had a comprehensive program that easily fit into our schedule without major disruptions in our class schedule. Karen’s program teaches true Yoga not a style. The trainees coming out of our first class are all teaching different styles of yoga “their style” at a high level of competence. They all embodied yoga in their own way. Since it was our first YTT, I decided to audit the training and was blown away by the depth of knowledge Karen has in the whole subject of Yoga and beyond. She presents it with a fun easy-going delivery stopping often to tell stories and answer questions. I have to say the InnerSpaces Training is by far the most comprehensive I have taken. This is my third 200-hour training. I have been teaching since 2007 and my first training was in the Anusara style. My second training was taken online with Sadie Nardini, both were wonderful, but Karen went the extra mile to make sure the trainees embodied yoga. The manual is amazingly detailed; a fantastic reference I will use over and over. Her teaching on using the 7 directions for sequencing is a very powerful tool. I was also introduced to Shamanism and how it relates to yoga; this helped me see more clearly how powerful we really are. Karen is a wonderful person to work with and I consider her a master teacher.”

What If I can't commit to 200 hours?
There are 2 options. You can just take the first 36 hour Yoga Immersion (first 2 months of training) with hour credit to a future teacher training. Or do the full teacher training in 4 Modules.
What If I Have a Schedule Conflict and Have to Miss One of the Dates?
No problem. Most people wind up having to miss a day at some point. Participants have one weekend of excused absence.
How Can I Make Up the Material?
It’s not possible for us to condense and reiterate the entire weekend’s worth of practicum when you're absent. However you are responsible for the material that was covered during your absence. What you can do is get the notes from one of your classmates. Participating in study groups helps a lot too. If, after getting the notes, you're feeling lost, you can hire a member of the Yogaspace training faculty to work with you privately.
What If I Have To Miss Two Weekends?
We do not guarantee a certificate of graduation to participants who miss more than one weekend.
